High Altitude Flight

Lauder Business School partners with TU Wien Space Team and K-Sat Stuttgart for a one-of-a-kind interdisciplinary project that aims to pioneer an outstanding concept of marketing, space marketing

This project, part of the IoT Futuretrail course of LBS Prof. FH. Mag. Robert Kotal, intends to spark an inspiring cooperation between business students and space engineering teams, and to provide ample opportunities for sustainable development and interdisciplinary entrepreneurship in the long run.

The Project

As part of an approximately 2-hour unmanned stratospheric flight with a weather balloon, the on-board computer measures not only telemetry, but also various environmental climate data such as CO2 concentration at different flight altitudes, and stores them for later evaluation. The flight will take place in the summer of 2022 over the Stuttgart area up to an altitude of approx. 35,000m, is insured and takes place in coordination with the German air traffic control – DFS.

In addition to recording climate data, the flight is also intended to test a completely new advertising concept: below the technical gondola, which is lifted by a helium weather balloon, there will be a rotating advertising device on which up to four companies can exclusively present their message against the backdrop of earth’s atmosphere. The advertising space is recorded by a 4K camera during the flight.

The Value

If you have a strong commitment to sustainability, and a proven track record of engaging in green projects, you have a chance to test with us this new advertising concept, and advertise your company in space.

Your marketing package will include an ad featuring your logo and your brief call to action message will be placed on a device below the data collecting gear, and will be featured on a screen with alternating sensor data. Everything will be filmed by a 4k camera in front of the endless view of our stratosphere.

The selected company will also receive the recorded video material and social media coverage on the Lauder Business School social media channels.

The advertising space is roughly 16×16 cm. A model of the layout is presented below. ⬇️

The Application Process

If your company is oriented towards finding sustainable solutions for the future, and has clear environmental, social and governance (ESG) targets, you are invited to compete for the four available advertising slots that will go on the gear.

Apply by declaring how your company meets these ESG targets by filling in the short questionnaire below. A panel of international LBS students will assess your application, scoring your company in accordance with EU´s taxonomy on green activities.

If selected, you will have the chance to present your company´s green goals and its logo in space.

We will announce the selected winners on June 15.
