LBS Career Center Meeting Dr. Stoss – CEO Casinos Austria

Recently LBS – in cooperation with the LBS ÖH – had the privilege to host an inspiring talk with the Dr. Karl Stoss, the CEO of Casinos Austria and the Austrian Lotteries. Dr. Stoss shared many fascinating insights from the gambling industry. For instance, Casinos Austria pioneered in online gambling and has strengthened its position as market leader in Austria. Karl Stoss’s impressive flight itinerary shows that gambling is a global business spanning from hotspots such as Macau and Las Vegas to emerging markets on all continents. Casinos Austria is active in many of them as an operator as well as with subsidiaries.

Moreover, Dr. Stoss acts as the President of the Austrian Olympic Committee. Among others, the Fireplace Talk participants learned of the enormous logistics involved when Olympic Games are hosted by long-haul destinations.

“Try different industries to see what suits you best”, is Dr. Stoss’s key advice; himself having moved into the lottery and casino business only after a long career at Management Zentrum Sankt Gallen and in the financial sector. What is more, Karl Stoss called for cultural and social open-mindedness and for a firm grip on reality, no matter how far one’s career might take one.
